In January 1998 Laurence Everard founded Mais Il Est Ou Le Soleil together with fashion designer Val Pollet. “I wanted to create a product and I wanted it to be manufactured in India, especially in Rajasthan! This country still employs embroidery and pattern techniques that are no longer used in Europe. The enthusiastic and warm welcome of a local manufacturer finally convinced us that it was a great idea. That’s how the story started!”

Val wanted Mais Il Est Ou Le Soleil to be a line between accessory and clothing. She felt that customers wanted more than just a scarf. Mais Il Est Ou Le Soleil offers garments for special events that can also be worn afterwards. They’re not easy to find. We define our clients by their attitude rather than by their relationship to a fashion or a generation.”
